The study, which appeared in the June issue of the journal Body Image, was conducted by Lora E. Park, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychology at the University at Buffalo; Rachel M. Calogero, Ph.D., lecturer in psychology at the University of Kent, and Melissa J. Harwin and Ann Marie DiRaddo, former graduate students in the UB Department of Psychology.
The study examined the role of appearance-based rejection sensitivity — the tendency to anxiously expect rejection based on one's appearance — among men and women's interest in cosmetic surgery.
For the study, a total of 133 American college students were randomly assigned to write an essay about either a negative or positive comment about their appearance that they had received in the past. Compared to participants with lower appearance-based rejection sensitivity, those with higher sensitivity felt more rejected and expressed greater interest in getting cosmetic surgery after recalling a negative versus positive appearance comment.
Results were found even after controlling for other individual difference variables, such as overall self-esteem, general rejection sensitivity, appearance contingent self worth and self-perceived attractiveness.
Negative appearance comments were most often made in reference to body weight/shape/size, the study participants reported, whereas positive appearance comments were most often made in reference to overall appearance. Peers/friends/romantic partners were the most frequently cited source of both positive and negative appearance comments.
“The results of this study suggest that individuals who anxiously expect rejection based on their appearance are vulnerable to the effects of negative comments about their appearance,” says Park. “Sensitivity to appearance rejection may therefore be a key psychological variable to consider when examining responses to teasing related to appearance, especially with regard to feeling rejected and expressing interest in cosmetic surgery,” she adds.

There are many women and men who choose to remove their pubic hair for many different reasons, and are looking for the best ways to remove it.
Waxing- A lot of people choose this pubic hair removal method because it is inexpensive and can be done from your own home, so you don't have to feel embarrassed about going somewhere to get it done for you. The results last a few weeks, so this is definitely an advantage as opposed to shaving which only lasts a day or two. If you choose to wax, here are some helpful tips. First, make sure that the area is dry. Dry hair sticks to the wax a lot better than if the hair is wet. Make sure that the hair is at least 1/8″ long before waxing. Also, you'll want to apply some wax to your skin first, in order to see if there is any allergic reaction or irritation. If such irritation occurs, don't continue to wax the area.
Shaving- This pubic hair removal method is not the best, only because pubic hair grows back really fast. If you are going to shave, make sure that you put a warm cloth on the area to open up the pores. Always use a shaving gel or soap when removing pubic hair. Don't just shave with a dry razor. This causes razor burn and bleeding sometimes.
Brazilian waxing- Many people like this method of pubic hair removal, while others cringe. It is expensive, but the results last way longer than shaving. Here is how the procedure works:
* Hot wax is applied around the anus, perenium, and vagina and is ripped off with a cotton strip. (Did you cringe)?
* A soothing lotion can be applied afterwards.
Brazillian waxing is very popular these days because you will remain hair free for 1-2 months before stubble appears!

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) has just released results of a consumer survey about current attitudes and perceptions relating to cosmetic surgery. The focus of the survey seems to be on how “accepted” it is in the mainstream to have had work done. The results are not surprising: 71% of survey respondents think society is now less judgmental about cosmetic surgery than it was even five years ago. Furthermore, 62% of respondents said that this less judgmental attitude has made them personally feel more comfortable about having a procedure now or in the future.
What are the most widely accepted procedures? Among invasive (surgical) procedures, breast augmentation, face lifts, and tummy tucks come out on top. Non-invasive procedures topping the list were Botox and laser hair removal.
The only portion of these results that was actually a bit surprising to me is that respondents over the age of 40 were only about half as likely as those under 40 to say they would consider having a procedure in the future. Furthermore, with all this supposed ”acceptance”, only about 52% said they would tell family if they were having a procedure. Although this number is up from years past, I would have expected to find a higher percentage of people who would be very open about their surgeries.
See plastic surgery before and after photos.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
Things You’ll Need:
Sugar
Razor
Shaving Cream OR Hair Conditioner
Step 1
Take a nice, warm shower. This way, your leg hairs will rise out of your skin and will be more relaxed. As we want to keep the room warm and moist, keep the fan off while you’re showering. You may also take a bath if you wish to do so.
Step 2
When you are out of the shower, keep your legs wet. Fill one of your hands with sugar and scrub either leg. Rinse off the sugar with water as warm as is comfortable for you.
Step 3
Cover your leg with shaving cream or hair conditioner after you rinse off the sugar. Shave as usual; be sure to not miss any spots. Use a clean razor, as a dull razor will not create as smooth of a result! When you’re done, rinse leg.
Step 4
Repeat steps 1-3 two times per leg.
Step 5
When you are done with both legs, rinse off with cool water but not too cold.
Step 6
If desired, moisturize your legs with your favorite moisturizer.
